Criminal Lawyer
A criminal lawyer is probably
the most celebrated and widely recognized figure in a typical court
proceeding. For some popular criminal cases with good media
mileage, criminal lawyers are often seen on national television
issuing compelling and persuasive statements in behalf of their
clients. Of course, the media usually romanticize them as a valiant
hero or a sinister villain equally guilty with the crimes committed
by the accused. Some would even go as far as saying that they are
also criminals for defending a person accused of a multiple murder.
But we have to keep in mind that unless proven guilty beyond
reasonable doubt, a person is deemed innocent.
A criminal lawyer is very important in any
criminal court proceeding, in representing people who are accused,
whether guilty or not, remains to be the million dollar question to
people who have faithfully kept abreast with the development of the
particular case. A criminal lawyer would often do anything in their
power to ensure that their clients will get a fair and impartial
trial. They create arguments and procure evidences that will
somehow prove the innocence of the accused by scrupulously
utilizing all the legal means available at their disposal.
In society, it
would seem that the sentiment would somehow be tipped in the favor
of the defendant; criminal defense lawyers are faced with the task
of putting up a very credible defense for a person who is accused
of a serious crime. It is their responsibility to dissuade
assumptions, knock down the credibility of witnesses and ultimately
convince the jury that the accused is indeed innocent. Most
competent defense lawyers need to have a flair for theatrics and
cunning ability to exploit the weaknesses of the defendant to their
advantage. In speaking in front of a jury, it is not only enough to
hold them riveted by their arguments but also to appeal to their
human instincts and intuition and possibly doubt their original
theory.
A lot of criminal lawyer are
forced to work in the dark, or working with the facts provided by
their clients. They often need to set aside their own principles
and personal judgment and take a noble stab on providing the very
best possible defense they could come up. Not all cases would need
the acquittal of the accused; some lawyers would often concentrate
more on lessening the weight of the verdict especially if their
clients are blatantly guilty of the crime they are accused
of.
It may seem an insurmountable task, and only a
few have risen up to the challenge of excelling in this challenging
field of law and those few certainly have the awe and admiration of
their colleagues. So if you are seriously contemplating on taking
up law and specializing on criminal defense make sure you have the
fortitude and shrewdness required for the job. Or else you would be
swallowed up whole in the cutthroat world of a criminal
litigation.
